NAS Daily vs Al Jazeera

I have seen NAS Daily's video's pop up quite often on my facebook feed, and every time I would watch one of their videos, I'd think that I love the message they are trying to convey, but the inspirational background music makes it seem like the type of video my dad would share in the family whatsapp group chat.

However, I was quite surprised to hear about what the ideo stated Al Jazeera is doing in the Middle East because I was completely oblivious to this fact. So much so that I have cited Al Jazeera's articles as legitimate academic sources in the past. But after watching this video, I googled the issue a bit further, only to find actual academic papers written about how the Qatari government funds the News company in order to spread fake news.

What comes as the biggest surprise for me however, is the fact that it has taken this long for me, a well as many other people from the the looks of the comment section of the NAS Daily video, this long to find out how blatantly Al Jazeera has been contradicting itself for years. On top of that, by appearing to be a legitimate new source on the global scale, Al Jazeera has also made itself appear more credible to its Middle Eastern audience as well, making the Arabic consumers think the propaganda that they are spreading is legitimate information.

I feel that most people, such as myself, that have just discovered this fact about Al Jazeera, feel a sense of betrayal because it makes you wonder just how many other news sources have been lying to us, but we must also keep in mind that we are supposedly receiving the nicer and more tame side of the Al Jazeera spectrum, but the people in the Middle East are being manipulated into hatred and violence against the israeli people. Rather than feeling angry for ourselves, I have realized that we must feel angry for the local people that are receiving the Arabic version of journalism from Al Jazeera.

I have personally never agreed with government owned news media because it takes away from what actual journalism should be in my opinion; a source of information for the audience to make their own subsequently autonomous decisions. But at the same time, I also do not agree with the type of video formatting that NAS Daily makes use of. By using such targeted music and imagery, they do not just sell the idea of love and acceptance as the guy in the video says, but also their products that they make money off of. So NAS Daily are also not as innocent as they are trying to make themselves sound in the video. And dare I say it, it can also be considered manipulation to a certain extent.
